We fell hard for Thai funk-influenced, Texas-based trio Khruangbin when we happened upon the group at SXSW in 2017. Now, it's about to release an excellent new full length that expands its sound. "Maria También" was the first single, and a perfect example of their uniquely evocative sound — watch Khruangbin perform it at KCRW.

The latest album from LA rocker Ty Segall is 19 songs strong. He premiered a handful of new tracks from Freedom's Goblin, as well as a cover of The Groundhog's "Cherry Red," during his live appearance on KCRW. The most surprising was the glam-disco number "Despoiler of Cadaver."

Americana singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile was our first live performer of 2018. She got us off to a great start, bringing a string ensemble and, of course, her long-time collaborators the Hanseroth twins for a preview of tracks from her forthcoming album By The Way, I Forgive You.

We're very proud to call Phoebe Bridgers a local artist we love. Her song "Motion Sickness" was an instant favorite and she proved her talent even further with a fantastic live performance. Bridgers is included in the latest list of artists in the Slingshot initiative, and I think it becomes clear why from watching this video.

Composer Ramin Djawadi brought the incredible music of Game Of Thrones to life in our studio. He called the session "Game Of Thrones: Unplugged," as he usually performs this score with a full orchestra. It was a gorgeous set of music, whether you are a fan of the hit HBO show or not.

Iron & Wine is one of our favorite singer-songwriters, and his live performances are always moving and impactful. Sam Beam's new album, Beast Epic, was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album and our favorite cut is the single "Call It Dreaming."

Elbow released a stunning record this year. Throughout Little Fictions, frontman Guy Garvey shares the joy of new love and fatherhood, while the gorgeous track "All Disco" was inspired by a conversation he had with Black Francis of the Pixies.

Toronto indie-pop band Alvvays has earned a devoted fan base over the years and took its songwriting to the next level on its sophomore release, Antisocialites. The romantic melancholy of "Dreams Tonite" was a highlight of the band's live in-studio performance.

Lawrence Rothman is one of the most interesting artists to come on our radar this year. The Laurel-Canyon-based artist channeled their journey of self-discovery into some incredibly catchy songs on their debut album. "Wolves Still Cry" was fantastic live, and the lyrics are worth a closer listen.

Stunning singer-songwriter Angel Olsen stopped by our studio in the midst of some arena dates opening for Arcade Fire. She played favorites from her last two records with a full band, and played songs from the recently-released album Phases solo. "Sans" was simply breathtaking.
