  • Laura Smitherman is Deputy National Editor for NPR News. She oversees breaking news and enterprise reporting from the eastern half of the United States, and she is the lead editor on immigration coverage. The National Desk covers the biggest issues facing the nation in collaboration with member stations around the country. Our reporters cover a range of beats, including national security, climate, race and identity, gender, criminal justice, state government and addiction.
  • Bobby Jones is a visionary artist and serves as Electronic Media Communications(EMC)/WJAB-TV Chief Photographer/Editor. He graduated from Calhoun Community College with an Associates of Applied Science in Graphic Design and later furthered his education at A&M to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design, with a Minor in Communications Media. Until 5th grade of elementary school, art was a hobby. It was something he did on his free time until in high school, when his hobby later turned into a passion and he began using his newly discovered graphic design skills to create Myspace pages and profile pictures for his friends. He continues to enchance his skills and utilize new techniques to fulfill the vision of EMC and WJAB-TV. Mr. Jones is excited to share his art with others around the world. He wants people to connect with his vision through his art on a personal level and easily decipher it from the crowd as his own.

  • Chris comes to KCUR as part of Guns & America, a reporting collaboration between 10 public media stations that is focused on the role of guns in American life. Hailing from Springfield, Illinois, Chris has lived in seven states and four counties. He previously served in the Army, and reported for newspapers in Kansas and Michigan. Chris lives in downtown Kansas City. He roots for St. Louis sports teams, which means he no longer cares about the NFL.
  • Carrie Brownstein is a writer, musician, actor, dog trainer and blogger for NPR Music. She was a member of the critically acclaimed rock band Sleater-Kinney. Brownstein writes NPR Music's "Monitor Mix" blog, and is a contributor to All Songs Considered. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times, The Believer, Pitchfork.com and numerous book anthologies on music and culture.
  • Amanda Peacher works for the Mountain West News Bureau out of Boise State Public Radio. She's an Idaho native who returned home after a decade of living and reporting in Oregon. She's an award-winning reporter with a background in community engagement and investigative journalism.

  • Erika joined KAZU in 2016. Her roots in radio began at an early age working for the independent community radio station in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado. After graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 2012, Erika spent four years working as a television reporter. She’s very happy to be back in public radio and loves living in the Monterey Bay Area.
